6th XI

The Social 1st XI

BUCS Northern 5B

The University Men’s 6th XI still compete at a high standard, especially considering the reactions people usually have when they hear of a 6th team. Last year, in the Christie Cup, a number of players from the 6th XI took part in the sides that played and played out of their skin. Obviously, the 6th XI is known as the social first XI, and their boozing ability massively exceeds their hockey ability (this is purely down to the fact that if boozing was put on par with hockey ability, they would be the first XI. plain and simple!!)

The Social XI are out to prove a point this year hopefully finishing above the 5’s in the league and causing an upset at some stage in the season. Ben ‘Gilly’ McGilloway is now in his second term of captaincy setting club records in the process. To see this sides’ Wednesday results, fixtures and successes click the above image…

Season Review 2011/2012

Being one of the best University 6s side in the country it’s only natural that imbedded in the teams ethos is a work hard play harder attitude. The 2013/14 campaign saw the ship steadied for the 6s and the aim for the team now is to build on from this stability and push for a potential promotion; currently sitting 3rd in the league this is certainly a possibility. Wednesday (BUCS) hockey is a different story for the 6th team. Unable to be relegated from our BUCS league, some less competitive members of the squad are more interested in prioritising a 100% boat race streak. Currently standing the 6s have yet to lose a boat race this season.  Beer Olympics being one of the biggest and prestigious club events; it’s essential for the social XI to have a strong performance in it come the end of the season. Restoring the glory days of the 2011/12 Beer Olympics is a significant 6s goal. Training for Beer Olympics takes place everyone Wednesday evening/night and attendance here is just as important as our usual Monday night training.
